He did, but I disagree it should be his job to tell Congress they should be doing their job. That's why we have separation of powers here. The President does not order the Congress what to do. Congress, you would hope, would be smart enough to recognize on their own what they should be doing.

I was not applying that BO should tell Congress how to do there job. I was simply trying to say that he should lead/ grab the bull by the horns and get things going.. I agree that every single congress person should be voted out of office..

It's august. They always take a recess in august. They do have to go home and meet with constituents periodically. The president, when taking a vacation is always taking a working vacation. This should surprise no one nor is it unusual in the least.

I loathe a whole lot of them but misconstruing how their job works is disingenuous.

And yeah there are separation of powers, congress sets their own calendar and it is public record. Its funny how people scream about the tyranny of the Obama administration and then complain that he should be tyrannical.

The Stock market falls by 400 or 500 pts in a day and that little debt ceiling problem.. It is just anohter day in August definitley time for vacation

If you suggest that the Congress stay in session until all of our problems are solved, then they'll never get a recess, will they? There's nothing that they can do to react to, or influence day-to-day market swings, and with the debt ceiling deal done, the work of the 12-person 'super committee' isn't due until November. What would you have them doing at present? Better they go home and face their constituents, get some perspective and hear the dissatisfaction, and come back fresh.

The debt ceiling crisis was a manufactured crisis and has been resolved for now. Last I checked, there's little a government can or should do when there is some short term volatility in the market. Lots of people make money off such a thing. The whole charade may have been planned to hedge some bets against certain kinds of stocks and bonds and other types of investments.

Europe outlawed short selling. Is that the kind of action you're looking for? A republican congress would never pass it.

The debt ceiling is the maximum amount of money that the government can borrow to make its payments. The US maxed out its credit card. This is now going to negatively impact the dollar and its role internationally. The debt ceiling limit caused economic uncertainty and the stock market dislikes uncertainty. The short term fix was to increase the debt ceiling limit. But, how will this impact the people who lend us the money to keep the government moving?

You know you're right. I"m going to go to work and cause all kinds of drama and potentially something that causes my company's stock to drop and tarnish it's international reputation. Then I'm going to take a vacation. I'm sure my job will be nice and safe when I get back.
