Sticking with Tuesdays for now as Betsy said, but open to other ideas if people have another preference (let us know here)? Also, the upcoming LO Conversation meeting date can always be found in the paper version of the LO- page 2 "Calendar" section :)

Brett, I hope you're announcing tomorrow. Some of us are getting impatient.

Hey, I think we could use a couple more candidates in the mix, especially ones that are strong-minded and well-spoken like Brett. Maybe we need a small army of School Board candidates, and we certainly need at least a couple of Council candidates, with all these appointments stretching end to end across our city. Not to say that I'm not looking forward to voting for at least one of those appointed people. Well one. For now, would have to get to know the others, maybe some of them will be there tonight. And then there's that mayor's job...

See you tonight. I might bring cookies.

Another interesting night, though I think talking about the group in the same breath as the City Club Roundtable discussion was a bit over the top. Still it is amazing the ideas and
comments that come out of these sessions.

Biggest kick to me was the people getting people to sign their petitions to run for public
office. Might be because Observers believe so hard in the process, they will all nearly
sign a petition to allow a person to at least campaign and make a public statement.

Thanks again to all, love these Tuesday sessions.

Part of the discussion at the Beck the other night was about the different forms that "news" takes. Steve Davis commented that he found watching television journalism intolerable, and said how much more he likes reading it online, and getting a chance to vet his own sources, before, or as he reads.

A Los Angeles Observer fan sent this clip which reminded me of Steve's comments.

Please change the name of this thread... sit down with the LO Tonight is about as meaningless a title of a thread I can think of. If you want people to join the conversation, post with the date, time and place. I rarely check this forum so when I see tonight and see it was days ago I am reminded about why I rarely check this forum any more. It seems kinda pointless.

Hey Kate,

Sorry, this thread has ended up being both a meeting announcement and a place to talk about what happened at the meeting mentioned-- it's a much better idea to start a different thread for that. The meetings can get somewhat rambling (lots of people talking about lots of things-- like this thread--) but they have been far from pointless. You'll see new things in the paper that have been results of new people bringing new ideas.

Right now I'm going to post a new announcement about the next meeting. Thanks for pointing this out, it would probably be a good idea to start a specific thread after each meeting, sharing what happened with people on the Deck.

A good quartet is like a good conversation among friends interacting to each other's ideas. - Stan Getz

Last night was a good night of "Word Jazz"

Thanks again for another nice evening of conversation. First evening for using the patio
outside and we packed the coffee shop. I have already spoken with Cindy about accessing
another room there for the meeting should it grow.

What might have been educational night with three of the people talking about education
and reporting on it there, turned into many small discussions in groups. My group was
talking about experiences around the country Lakewood could learn from. The big
conversation was around how San Antonio was about to fill a little stream that had
become part of the city's sewer system in 1927, that was about to be filled and stopped them.

He then inspired them to dam it, and work with it. Of course that is now the "river district"
which has become the central focal point and theme of San Antonio. Which lead to the discussion
of the Lenin statue at Freemont, Washington. Where a person had bought a statue of Lenin
from the Soviet Union, and after fighting with the local government for 5 years finally put
it up on private property, and now the city has Lenin parties, Lenin parades, Lenin runs
and 5ks, etc.

Another good night talking with Lakewoodites, though the barrista said we were the
loudest group he had seen in there, it never really seemed that loud.

Through the entire evening Rob Masek(Lakewoodites) was taking notes that I am sure will
end up in future comic strips.

Thanks again for those stopping by. See you in two weeks, if not sooner.

peace

Reminder

Tonight, 05.24.2011 will be another coffee meeting at The Beck Center/Café stop by and
meet other Observers, and join the ongoing conversation.

I think it might be interesting as I was speaking with one of the true forces of nature in this
town and she mentioned her new project and how it will impact Lakewood. Yesterday she
mentioned see you Tuesday night.

Relaxed, calm, always different, conversation about Lakewood.

7:00pm - 8:45pm

Once again, LO contributors past/present/future will meet at the Beck Cafe from 7-8:45pm this evening, Tuesday, June 7. Join us for a lively evening of caffeine and conversation. Isn't it time you added your voice to the mix?

See you tonight!

Now that was enjoyable!

No hot topics, most of the time spent on if Lakewood had streets, and yes we do but not
many of them. Followed immediately with one of Steve Davis' favorite subjects, Lakewood
streets with no addresses. Many more than one would imagine.

While we spoke of many things, nothing last night will change the world.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, talk with friends and neighbors does the soul good.

For those who are wondering...YES we are meeting tonight at the Beck Cafe per the usual, but look for some changes in the upcoming schedule as we officially launch into summer. For now, do try to join us tonight (June 21st) from 7-8:45 pm.

After a fun night last night of recognition for all of your Observers out there at the School Board Meeting and one of the best attended Council Meetings in months, there should be plenty of fodder for conversation!

See you there!
