I'm also happy to hear that one of our city councilpersons is in fact not the type of politician that a legitimate email would have implied. While some folks clearly had sides one way or the other here - mob mentality in both directions - I don't see how demanding an investigation to get to the truth of something like this is anything to apologize for. Again, supporters and detractors alike should have been demanding it. It is unfortunate that there is no real conclusion here other than to clear Mr. Juris. No doubt human nature being what it is there will be speculation. Was it merely a prank or something more sinister? I for one would have liked to learn if this was a political enemy or a media hack job or a personal/business vendetta or what have you.
That's one take on it.
Of course, I'm not sure how much "mob mentality" was on the councilman's side in regards to this email hacking subject. Personally, I have no issue with residents wanting and then having an investigation. However, I was more concerned about presumed guilt being thrown around here without verification and people trying to push opinion as fact on this particular subject and making rash assumptions.
Of course anyone can go through the thread and point out where there may have been some, if it exists, and see where that mentality came from in force.
Glad it was investigated as well, since that was such a "big issue" for many.
It takes a thoughtful person to apologize when conclusions are jumped to, so it doesn't always happen.

My question is.. Was this a rogue / attempt to defame Shawn Juris? Was there any due diligence on Stephen Davis part before the posting of the "e-mail"? Did Stephen Davis at least attempt to call Shawn to try to verify that Shawn did indeed send the e-mail? I hope that all involved in this incident can come to some type of a truce and move-on..

The sky was not falling.

A little due diligence and patience might have prevented this entire incident.

Glad to see LPD do its usual crackerjack job of investigation.
What a shame that such websites (those design to aid and abet less-than-honest actions/behavior) actually exist out there in cyberworld. Anyone else now concerned about a local rash of copycat incidents where anyone can send anyone else emails with ill intent. Are you, dear reader, taking mental inventory of your "enemies"?
Technology is not always used to improve the human condition; rather it is--as this case demonstrates--a tool to exacerbate our worst human traits/qualites. The true perpetrator of this crime, the person who DID send the phony email, has done nothing but helped stir the already boiling pot; helped turn brother against brother; and given Our City a black eye. Much like the arsonist who does not leave once the fire has started and prefers to mingle with the crowds who have gathered to watch the fire, the perp in this Emailgate episode is more than likely reading this discussion thread. Proud of yourself? You shouldn't be. You are pathetic.
Is anyone else really bummed that the true antagonist will never be identified? That's technology for you!

Too bad not everyone sees it that way, and believes it is still a possibility that Shawn did it.

Lakewood Observer Facebook wrote: I just got back from the police. No one has been cleared. Do not believe the hype, read the report, call the police. They have no conclusion on who sent it. NONE.
Just answer me a few questions:
1. If Shawn never thought anyone else would see the email why would he use an anonymous router and put in his own email.
2. If he thought that it could be come public why would he take any chance of ruining his entire reputation by either a. really sending it or b. sending it to look like a fake from his own account? Do you really think he is that self loathing?
3. If someone was to write an email in anger, in the heat of the moment, do you really think they are thinking "hey, I'm going to try and trick them by routing it through a fake mailer but still put my real email in it completely defeating the purpose"?

I cannot answer your questions. many people do many stupid things for various reasons.
Myself included.
BUT
The police were asked to investigate if Councliman Juris's email was "maybe hacked."
Councilman Juris himself said his account might have been hacked.
What the police found out and is in their report, and the only thing in the report that was
a finding was...
"It does not appear that the email server for thejurisagency.com was compromised."
That is all. PERIOD
Now certainly Shawn could have used hacked instead of spoofed. It is easy to make
mistakes, but nor Shawn or anyone has been "CLEARED" of anything.
So please lets get our facts straight, and stop with the emotional pleas.
I sat quiet while they looked at Chas Geiger, and was glad when he was cleared. I would
be equally as glad if they cleared Councilman Juris, but they have not.
So it goes on, so please Chris, report honestly without the pleas for what ifs.
The other media reports are just sloppy bad reporting.
Pitiful stuff when you consider what is on the line, a person's career.
Hence my "No comment," we are talking about a councilman, and some very serious
ramifications with first amendment and right to work laws. Let's give Shawn and Steve
and whoever the benefit of the doubt.
This isn't a team sport, us against them. It is some pretty serious stuff once you get past
the idle chit chat here.

http://lakewood-oh.patch.com/articles/p ... ity-stolenhttp://www.clevescene.com/scene-and-hea ... -kerfuffle It would appear that Scene Magazine agrees with the Lakewood Patch article. (but maybe JOB is correct about their reporting). Just to be clear, Shawn's account was not hacked but it appears that someone used a service that allows a person to send an e-mail from any e-mail address that they choose. Am I mis-reading the police report? Thanks!

"Police: City Councilman’s Email Identity Stolen"
That is not true, now is it?
The police cannot make that finding.
The only finding made, through his server is, that his email server was not compromised.
That is all.
As I have said, and it is my last post in this thread till it makes it way through the legal
system: We are talking about some serious issues, and people's careers. It is not
a team sport.

No emotional pleas, just asking those who might still condemn, or think Shawn did it, to try and explain their reasoning. This might not be you, but I wouldn't surprised if they are out there.
