Excellent example of crime is everywhere, and the with none local commercial projects
if it bleeds it leads, and if it doesn't bleed we will make it sound like it bleeds.
On the flipside, we have seen Lakewood used far to often as the "example" of rundown homes, trouble, etc. I know of one reporter that lives here that told their boss no more.
Let's see if he keeps his job.

Do you remember this picture?
A few years ago a national magazine featured Lakewood in a very positive article. The magazine highlighted the fine homes, schools, etc. When the Plain Dealer reported on the article they published that picture on it's front page as an example of a house in Lakewood.
I wasted a lot of time contacting the PD to find out why they felt the need to publish that particular picture. No one ever responded.
I travel by Tremont every day on my way to work. Once or twice a week the neighborhood is covered in smog from the steel mills. I recently talked to a couple of
people who moved from Tremont to Lakewood because of the smog and safety issues. When is the last time you read an article in the PD about Tremont that mentioned either of those problems?

Remember David George?
David George wrote for the PD and Sun, and he was the go to guy for council and the schools,
he would spin anything they gave him. It got to him so much he created the fake name
"Whiteline" to get out the truth about his town. When we started the Observer, preferring
information from residents instead of City Hall, which had a propensity to lie, spread
miss-truths, and generally treating the residents with disdain he tried signing on here using
various nom de plumes and was always caught and stopped.
One day I spoke with him about his repeated attempts, and he said, "I have so much I
could say, but if I use my real name, I will never get access to City Hall and the Schools."
Which is why we went with "non-professional journalism, as a house wife, or resident
would not loose their job for talking about their experiences.
Sadly, many found out the city has various ways to get even.

I'm not going to do this every day even though there are every day examples.
People shouldn't wear rose colored glasses but a little perspective doesn't hurt.
