All
It has come to my attention that many believe my last two letters were too negative. I find that funny as I wrote them in a very positive frame of mind, and was very up on the City of Lakewood. Of course I am always up on Lakewood, ask any of the other Observer editors or publishers, they are tired of hearing about just how nice Lakewood is, and now they are reading it elsewhere. It is quite a PR Machine we have rolling, and kudos go to everyone at City Hall, Lakewood Services, like police, fire and public works. Together we build, then amplify what Lakewood is. Lakewood is 90% occupied with happy, satisfied residents-- all the recent great press we have been receiving will rapidly fill the remaining 10 percent.
My angst comes from seeing residential areas, fine beautiful quiet streets get dragged into being “commercial districts.” It is my psychosis, and while I hear the same comments around the city, everyone believes Lakewood today is better than Lakewood 5 years ago. Which I find correct but also pretty amusing, as Lakewood of 5 years ago was a pretty damn good place to live and raise a family.
Even though we recently won “most exciting place in Ohio,” one has to wonder, do people and families want to live in the most exciting place in Ohio? I am thinking maybe not. Did people want to live in the Flats at the height of their exciting years? Probably not, but the Flats did not have our Lakewood Public Library, or new schools, our fine police and fire.
No matter what, I know that our city, our fabulous residents, businesses, neighborhoods, City Hall, Police and Fire, will put their best foot forward day after day, week after week, month after month. Because we all have known for years if not decades that Lakewood is the BEST PLACE TO LIVE AND RAISE A FAMILY, because we all love life, community, and Livable Lakewood.
Get outside, it is a great day!
