I always keep my stairs clear but got one of these too, I think they gave them to all the houses with porch mounted mailboxes. I put in one near the front walkway. Notice though they are requesting, not demanding so you don't have to. I can see their point with some houses that don't clear ice off the steps I guess. My shoveling the walk doesn't seem to matter much, the mailperson just walks across the front lawn to the next house anyway.

I am just glad they have not moved us to "superboxes" yet

We put in a temporary mailbox every winter. I think it is a good policy, and a considerate one for postal carriers.

A temporary mailbox is a great idea. I have a friend that has a beautiful, wooden front porch but it becomes like ice in the winter. I'm going to suggest this to them. They've tried various solutions to no avail. Where does someone get a temporary mailbox? Lakewood Hardware by any chance?

As the wife of a mail carrier in the city of Lakewood I think this is a great idea. Many people in the city don't clean off their steps, sidewalks, etc. Winter is a dangerous season for carriers. For them to give you a letter it must be hazardous for them. Good luck.

We received one of those letters either last year or the year before. And I moved the box to the side of the front porch. I went to move it back in the spring but didn't as it was just as easy to get to for us. It saves the carrier a few steps and keeps them a little safer in the winter. A win for everyone :)
