My Day(an hour) Of Garage Sales In Lakewood

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

In a day of Garage Sales in Lakewood, I decided it might be fun to see how the items for
sale varied from neighborhood to neighborhood. They all have they own flavor, and I was
curious. Would their be slightly used flat screens for sale in Clifton Park, and my old stolen
bike for sale in Birdville? Would I be buying slight used Russian nested dolls missing pieces
on the east side of the city, and broken GI Joes and Barbie Dolls on the west side? Or was
Lakewood nearly the same across the board? Some baby clothes, a used big wheel, some
wedding presents still in the box? Some cassettes, and toys? This should be good!

Heading north to the other side of the, well let's say north, I saw a sale that just had to be
cool, and damn I was stopping and seeing what cool stuff was there for sale!

Image
This should be a "cool" sale. When suddenly Thomas Mulready, "Cool Cleveland" comes
down the driveway stopping us with, "O'Bryan, what are you doing here? This sale is for
cool people!" I show him my money, and he goes, "Ok, I'll make an exception this time."

Image
Inside we find the always pleasant Carol Hunt Mulready sweeping some water off the
drive. Check out how nice her set up is; A) Change for the quick sale. B) Sticker for quick
pricing changing. C) A Sharpie brand waterproof pen.

After about 5 minutes, "OK, you better be moving along. I knew you weren't a buyer.
You think you are cool, but lets be realistic here."

OK, OK

On Lake Road...

Now this crew had it down. I asked, can I take a couple pictures for the Observer. One girl
said, "I think so, let me ask my mother." The other said, "I know you want to buy some
cupcakes." Feeling the pressure I said "sure" She said, "what about your friend?" Feeling
even more pressure to buy, "I said, OK I'll take two." With some secret sign, I am sure,
the other girl walked back and said "OK you can take a couple."

Image
Wow! What a colorful sale! The cupcakes were good too!

Then the rain came, thank god! I am not sure how much more I could have taken.

No "cool" hats for sale. Move on.

Oh well, we tried.

Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart.
You just gotta poke around.
