I know we all hate this tick-tick-tick of time but time is the one thing that stops for no one. With that in mind this issue marks the first 1/4 of the year gone. Where are you with your New Year's Eve Resolutions? Those silly little promises we make to ourselves each and every year.

Well, Lakewood resident and County Executive Edward FitzGerald has kept to his path announcing his run for Governor. One of the most amazing moments I have ever had with then Councilman FitzGerald was a conversation about Robert Kennedy, when I could not help but feel someday this man would be running for President. We shall see. Also announced in this issues is that Betsy Shaughnessy and Edward Favre will be running for re-election to the Board of Education.

Another "promise" kept was that longtime Lakewood resident and entrepreneur Mickey Krivosh has teamed up with his family to open Vosh, a spectacular study in recycling and green, though the predominant color would be purple-- what else would one expect from a family of LHS graduates. Another promise realized with AGS Software, a partnership of seven Lakewoodites and LHS Grads has launched their tenth publication, while hinting at another 6 before end of summer!

Which bring us to some of the bigger news in Lakewood, Ian Andrews, Director of LakewoodAlive entered the discussion at our new LOKOL Discussion Series, and walked away so impressed he signed up on the Deck! It is a new crew at LakewoodAlive, they are building on the solid direction of Hilary Schickler, Housing Outreach Director, and are tackling some of Lakewood's most serious issues, with great plans and ideas like Kauffman Park redevelopment, they deserve our support.

Of course the toughest question came from yours truly, and was, "How can we compete against other 'inner ring urban communities' when their CDC's are funded to the tune of millions of dollars with massive staffs in the coming years?" Ian's answer was simple, "Support, give, and volunteer; we are starting with a better base. Our city has so many great things to work with, including the residents." We must not rest on our laurels of being the best over the past 4 years. We must work together to continually make this city all it can be. After all, we have always realized our future is in our hands. Carpe Diem - Seize this day! This month! This year! Make a promise to help make the city better, and keep it!
