100+ MPH Car Chase And Accident Skirts Lakewood

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Around 7 pm Sunday night, a man robbed Target on W117th at gunpoint and escaped in a
stolen 1963 Lincoln Continental and proceeded north of W117th street at speeds
approaching 100 mph with the police in chase.

Image
The suspect hit the SUV at the top of the frame, then the curb, which sent the car 15' into
the air where it clipped the pole cutting it in half and landing 50' away. Where the suspect
took off on foot, and was tackled by a person witnessing the accident, and police arrested
him and took him into custody.

Considering the accident the 1963 Lincoln help together extremely well.

The rear bumper was the only thing that entered Lakewood.

The car that was hit was newly purchased.

It was just lucky no one was hurt on this.

I hope you don't mind me bumping this news story back up near the top. It kind of got lost in the effort
by you to bump other stories to the top.

As this is a news exclusive, I am sure you understand.

A friend and coworker was AT the Target when the man came running out of it after failing to rob the store. He told me the following:

After the failed robbery attempt, the man was attempting to abscond with a television in a cart and busted through the sliding doors. The security guard chased him to the door and then stopped, as is their company policy.

The man then proceeded to the Staples where he did rob the store, apparently. This is where the police caught up with him and the chase began.

I had no idea that those old Lincolns were so safe by today's standards. I doubt the perpetrator was even wearing a lap belt.

Knowing that no innocent bystanders were hurt is a relief, but seeing that Lincoln destroyed is heartbreaking. The new SUV can be easily replaced, but those Lincolns haven't been made in awhile. . .

Hmmm... is that the same car that was for sale by someone on Riverside just past the newly opened park entrance?

I drive home down Riverside everyday, and remember it sitting on the street in front of someone's home. Might not be the same car, but looks like it.

I'm glad noone was hurt. Reminds me of the car that hit the pole on Riverside--last summer?-- snapping the pole and landing the car on it's side. Nothing like hearing an accident right around the corner ~ was glad the car didn't flip over the side that time!

I wonder how many poles have been snapped off in Lakewood....
