As a powerful front moved through last night at about 11pm, power in many sections of the city went off, or flickered and cycled so many times on an off it worried some.

Many in the city received this email from First Energy this morning.
Currently there are nearly 58,000 customers without power. Multiple areas of damage -- trees and many reports of wires down and broken poles. Many circuits have several damage points and will take time to restore. We have asked for mutual assistance from our sister companies, but anticipate this to be a multi-day event, potentially going into Saturday, but nothing is certain at this time. Calls continue to come in, and the outage numbers have been rising. We staffed crews for this event beginning yesterday afternoon. As of 5 pm yesterday, there were still 100 open outage orders (not customers) from yesterday morning's storm. Current outages by communities are:
