Society Cleaners/Green Cleaners

Post by Heather Ramsey »

Noticed a big dumpster in front of the Society Cleaners (across from St. Ed's) and a new sign that mentioned Green cleaning. Then I saw a Society Cleaners sign in a smaller storefront down the street. Anyone know any details?

You are correct Heather- Society has moved east down Detroit and Katie's Clean and Green Laundry Center has moved into the space across from St. Eds.

Stopped in a couple months ago to check the place out and the owner happened to be behind the front counter reading what else but- a Lakewood Observer! He was very enthusiastic about starting a business in Lakewood and seemed to have great vision for how a "green" dry cleaning service and down the road a "green" laundromat will fit into Lakewood's culture of sustainability. I believe he said that the laundromat will have all Electrolux high efficiency appliances, but don't know whether or not they have that part of the business up and running yet.

In the spirit of full disclosure, Katie's Clean and Green has advertised in the paper once or twice, but my conversation with him happened before they purchased any ads :)

Overall, I think it's great to see a business come into Lakewood with an understanding of what the community values and then really embrace these values to the fullest.

Definitely didn't look operational. Or at least not to me--I rarely think "Hey, I'll try that place that's mostly obscured by the huge dumpster and still has the old sign in addition to a new sign!"

I'd been going to Westlake (who at least claim to be organic) for dry cleaning on the few occasions when I've needed that. Now I guess I'll have a dilemma!
