Help LHS Win $500,000!
Kohl's is sponsoring a Facebook contest that gives the top 20 vote-getting schools in the country $500,000 in honor of the department store company's 10th anniversary of the Kohl's Cares program. Help LHS be one of the top 20 by going to http://bit.ly/aQ96mX and voting. Anyone 13 and over can vote and each person can vote 5 times for a single school. Voting ends Sept. 3. Let's show the country how Lakewood supports its schools!

Oh, so the school system couldn't bother to put a plan together to get the Race to the Top grant from the Feds but we're all supposed to go and vote so LHS can win some money?
If I recall, when questioned, Lakewood Schools thought that other schools needed the money more, like Beachwood and Hudson, lol.
Why do I find this somehow so pathetic?

Grace,
As I recall, there were very compelling reasons to not apply for that grant. When the terms were described to me, I agreed with the Board's position. If that is still a sticking point, maybe somebody from the schools could remind us of the details of that decision. I haven't looked back into the archives, but there may have been some helpful discussion about that topic here on the Observation Deck.
I will participate in the Kohl's/Facebook contest.

I did a quick search and found Mr. Markling's response to this issue when it came up.
