bold
a resurgence in dog sledding.
snow mobile races replaced with foot races over hazardous terrain.
replace capital intensive meth labs with herbal alternatives and smaller caliber fire arms.

That is good of her to say that. It might have more of an impact if I thought she believed any of that. She probably did not even know what renewable energy was until she was destroyed by the liberal media the past election cycle. But with that said there is a time for everyone. I suppose I am glad she is coming around.

What is the bold new energy plan?
She is to be applauded for the comment, the thoughts and the efforts, but I really only see, a different person saying what others have said for decades.
What would be a bold new energy plan would be to cap, the wells and go for 75% or more from renewable.
Again, I applaud the thought, and the statewide plan. But it would be like giving you credit for Reiki.
It will be interesting seeing how she builds on her support and morphs into a real challenger or not 4-8 years down the road. I give her credit for what she is done and doing, but...

Getting rural communities off diesel and creating wind farms.

Its a Alaska Jim... They have enough oil to stay on fossil fuels for the next 10,000 years..Jim O'Bryan wrote:Stephen Eisel wrote:What is the bold new energy plan?

Well, not really. I might be mistaken but I do not believe there are any refineries up there. Also while it is in their state, they are part of the union, and contract out to many sources, most foreign to get the crude out of the ground.
No matter, I was asking about the BOLD NEW ENERGY PLAN.
I was hoping for a new battery, clocks that run on toast, H3, portal star chambers.
You know a BOLD NEW PLAN, or are we still grading on a curve?

The mindset of not having remote villages run on diesel engines is a new concept for Alaskans. The thought that windmills could help Alaska cut down on fossil fuel use is a bold new energy plan.
PS There are 6 refineries in Alaska
Kenai Refinery (Tesoro), Kenai 72,000 bbl/d (11,400 m³/d)
Valdez Refinery (Petro Star), Valdez 50,000 bbl/d (7,900 m³/d)
North Pole Refinery (Petro Star), North Pole 17,000 bbl/d (2,700 m³/d)
Kuparuk Refinery (ConocoPhillips), Kuparuk 14,400 bbl/d (2,290 m³/d)
North Pole Refinery (Flint Hills Resources), North Pole 210,000 bbl/d (33,000 m³/d)
Prudhoe Bay Refinery (BP), Prudhoe Bay 12,500 bbl/d (1,990 m³/d)

Thanks for the refinery update. I cannot believe I never realized that.
As for windpower as the article points out that for years, Alaska was seen as one of the best places for wind power, and wave power.
I would agree that it is a step in the right direction, I would like to see them all capped until the rest of the world runs out.
To me that would be a bold energy plan. Or for them to reclaim the 60% of natural gas that is headed to HARP. Or something truly NEW and BOLD.
H3, to me that would be bold.
That said, I do wish to give Gov. Palin credit for moving things along and looking elsewhere for energy, when she lives in the Kuwait of North America.

passive houses
the "Passive houses" of Germany maintain a comfortable temperature with very little energy.
