Peak time for the action was between 1am and 3am.
Deb and I hit the streets about 11pm, covering Edgewater, Clifton Beach, Rocky River Beach, Huntington Beach, Swenson's Burgers, Veteran's Beach and Lorain Park. All along the trail of the Northern Lights we found parks filled with people looking north. Standing in silence just staring with an occasional newcomer coming in with lights blaring, lighting the area, before getting out and wandering over and saying, "See anything yet?" Then they would stand with the group or alone, and another would fall off get into their car and drive away. This went on at ever park we stopped at, and I am sure all along the south shore of Lake Erie.
After a great late night burger at Swenson's (damn I wish they moved to Lakewood), we settled in and looked north in a pretty dark spot and saw this!

Unless I am mistaken, these are the lights of Windsor Ontario, which are indeed north of us. And this is about all we saw. I imagine space weather is even harder to predict than earth weather.
Then looking straight up into the clear sky...

Another moment of just how small we really are, and how little we really know. Wow what a beautiful night.
Driving back the parks were still filled with people coming and going, and asking, "Have you seen anything yet?" People out having fun, looking up and seeing a beautiful clear sky, on a crisp spring day, with hope in their hearts to see some magic.
Great night, great adventure.
Thank you to all of the police departments along the lake, that looked the other way on curfews and park closings. I saw no parks closed, and everyone having a great time.
Maybe next time.
