Thank You City Hall And Civic Leaders
Today I read yet another story about University Hospitals stepping in and stepping up large in a community with the ever growing world of Health Care. The fastest growing work, technology sector in America. And one that in Cuyahoga County is the lifeblood to reatain youth, and get high paying jobs, and residents.
Thank god we got out of that rat race, and into something really special like government underwritten Cafes, Ice Cream, Dry Cleaners, and possible pet stores. If I close my eyes I can picture it. Mayor Summers speaking, with Tom Bullock and Mary Louise Madigan on each side of him screaming, "We must not permit a Cafe strip mall gap! We will follow retail, and past trends forever! Science, Data, Studies and nothing but things for us to distort..." as City Council nodded and approved.
Or maybe It was Mike Summers walking Sam O'Leary down to the Mayor's office, letting Sam sit in "the Mayor's Chair" and spin around while saying, this could all be yours some day. I just need your help on making Lakewood Healthy. Young Sam, possibly a little dizzy, looked up at the Mayor and said, "Yes, what do I need to do?" The Mayor, pulling him out of his chair, and helping walk him down the hallway back to Council Chambers said, "Sam, we want to make Lakewood healthier, and we have found that there is a pocket of sick people in and around Belle and Detroit. If we were to close it down, instantly sick people would be moved to Fairview and Cleveland. Instantly we are healthier." Sam nods, and is left by the Mayor saying, wait till you taste the ice cream... Sam thinking Council will go along, they are all worried about keeping this $7,000 a year gig. Besides, 20% Clifton Club membership is a great perk.*
Who knows, who cares, we can go back to worrying about important things like what food trucks will be around...
Thank you.
* In this satire, we are not sure that 20% off a picnic bench every 4 years on the 4th of July was actually offered.

Re: Thank You City Hall And Civic Leaders
One one hand you have to admire the Mayor and his pals. They lied repeatedly about just about everything and got away with it. Will Sam O'Leary reap the benefit of those lies?
Strip away all the propaganda, lies and deceptions and what is left is the true purpose of the whole scam: Transfer millions in assets to the Cleveland Clinic and transfer at least $65 million in City money to private foundations controlled by the Mayors pals. Actually, private foundation is something of a misnomer; private playground would be more accurate.
Anyway, IS there a problem with the Hospital site that will prevent the construction of the project as presented to Council?

We are in the part of this melodrama, where we find out. "there will be no clear tubes to transport people all over Lakewood from high end shopping to Lakewood Hospital, to fine dining." but it will have a dry cleaner. (Marc's Plaza Strip Mall) OR It is pointed out that 2/3rds of the people interested have filed bankruptcy, and the other third were never coming. (West End Strip Mall)
Then can still build nut site preparation is going waaaaaaay up, and that is on us residents. And why is going there going waaaaaaaaaaaay down.
I find it amazing how many times this group has promised high end something and delivered far far far less than that.

Re: Thank You City Hall And Civic Leaders
They want the “high-end” shopping they think they deserve.
What they fail to come to grips with is Lakewood demographics. Trader Joe’s, Ann Taylor, Whole Foods, and any major retailer, all rely on income data in location decisions and frankly, Lakewood average and median income is not sufficient for them to choose Lakewood. Never gonna happen.
As for attracting high income shoppers from Westlake, River, or Avon, they aren’t coming here to shop - they’ve already got these stores near them.
All of their ideas are pie-in-the-sky.

Re: Thank You City Hall And Civic Leaders
Did anyone ever consider that these good people looking in the future and prepping the City of Lakewood for the Democrat’s universal health care package, aka, Medicare? A wise politician once said you can fool all people some of the time and some of the people all the time but you can't fool all of them all the time. However, he didn't live in a time where the product of our education system graduates as deluded narcissistic liberal toddlers.
Everyone will be on Medicare, unlike other cue tips, I welcome you. Medicare Plan A, hospital coverage will be FREE, however Plan B, basic and selective medical coverage with deductions and co-payments will cost you $135.00 a month. Keep in mind that this does not cover glasses, dental care or hearing aids, but it will cover you a motorized wheelie cart that you can drive blind and deaf.
Supplemental insurance and Plan D, drugs, coverage. You will need it, otherwise the medical industry coupled with Lakewood property taxes will put your home at a sheriff’s sale to cover the medical and drug expenses that you needed that is not included in Plan B and D. To keep the roof over your head you will have to secure a private medical insurance plan to protect your domicile. With those costs, there is no need for the current number of hospitals and waiting in for days for care has an advantage, it is warm unlike your home you can’t afford to heat.
The cost of Medicare with supplemental coverage for my wife and I is approximate $9,800 a year not including our share of the drug cost. Is this shocking to the graduate toddlers with their liberal indoctrination instead of an education who think seniors are ripping off the system, when in fact we paid into social security, Medicaid and Medicare all our lives.
We should be able to retire as millionaires had the corrupt users in government invested social security funds instead of borrowing from it. All is not lost, you won’t starve, as you will discover, the FDA has approved dog food for senior citizen consumption and provides a free cookbook on various recipes using your yard clippings as spices. As an added bonus, you didn't need that dental care, you can gum dog food.

Hey, I've got an idea. Doesn't Marc's need a bigger space to expand, maybe one that includes space for shopping carts. Then put a dollar store in place of Marc's. We'd be on our way to upscale city.

The Yang to their other strip mall Marc's Plaza.
Yin and yang
n Chinese philosophy, yin and yang is a concept of dualism in ancient Chinese philosophy, describing how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another.
or...
Instead of football, just say "High End Shopping"

Residents would be Charlie Brown, Lucy will be played by what Councilman David Anderson referred to as Lakewood's Secret Government in his first year on council.

Obviously Mayor Summers and crew might have been mistaken about hospitals.

More hospitals, more services, just not in Lakewood.
