Meghan F. George Runs For Mayor Of Lakewood...

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Today Meghan F George's name appeared on the Cuyahoga Board of Election website under Lakewood for Mayor.

First indication that someone has pulled petitions with and interest in running for office.

Meghan George caught everybody sleeping when she ran for a Council-At-Large seat, ending up with nearly twice as many votes as anyone else running. It was obvious then, she had city-wide appeal, and a future in Lakewood politics. She comes from a past legend in Lakewood politics and a name almost everyone looks back on fondly to those better days: Open government and a city that loved to communicate with each other.

I have worked for over a year with her on the LCA Board, and she quickly rose from newby to President of the Board, and watching her skills at working with others made me smile and remember friendlier times.

More on this story to come.

This is the best news for Lakewood. Meghan REALLY cares about our city and the people who live and work here.

Good news.....she is a viable candidate with a real chance to win.

The County Machine will back Sam "The Sham" O"Leary......they will invest big money to make sure Team Summers holds onto Lakewood City Hall.
There are no Cleveland, statewide, or national races this year....so The Machine is going to expend all its energy in the suburbs.

Finally, a candidate who has the best interest of all Lakewood citizens at heart!

Very happy to hear Meghan George will take on the tough job of running for mayor. This city badly needs new leadership and I can’t think of a better person to take the reins than Meghan!

Word on the street, the darkness is freaking out. They kicked Tom Bullock to the curb 2 years ago, hoping to make Council President Sam O'Leary the next in line of royal succession. BUT, the talk is with such a strong showing in her first election, and her strong base, they might have to run Mayor Summers again, and then appoint, Sam.

Read it here first.

Read it here first.
They think the "Summers" name will magically rescue them at the ballot box?
I think Meghan would do as well (if not better) against Summers than she would against O'Leary.

I agree with Mike.

Go ahead and run Summers. Meghan will knock his block off.

Women won handily at the ballot box in 2018 and I expect it to continue.

Thank god!

I agree the city is sick and tired of the Ed FitzGerald/Summers machine of deceit, and hidden agendas for friends and supporters.

One would hope that Lakewood would finally wake up, and see, we need to break the trend of hand me down elected officials.

I am just saying, talking to one they now are doubting Sam can deliver, and think they should have stayed backing Bullock. But now that is too late and they do not want to lose control to someone that fights for sunshine.

But let's be honest, they will lie, cheat, intimidate, and bullshit their way through the summer of 2019, for that is all they know.

Yep.

They’ll play the Trump game. I’m expecting a litany of rumors and falsehoods against Meghan and other dirty tricks, which they have been shown to resort to repeatedly.

Good luck with that. They’re going to be dealing with voters who got involved with the hospital issue, voters who registered and became active over the pit bull issue, and just generally a demographic that wants more diverse voices.

Another teacher with a liberal indoctrination and attitude that the world is wonderful with no business experience and her only concept of government is a back room called Committee of the Whole making decisions there and playing the role of talking heads in the Council Chambers. What is she going to do, nothing, but be a puppet controlled by the existing administration personnel and vested interests, most of who don't reside in Lakewood, who will eat her alive like her predecessors because she knows ZERO about how to run a service company effectively and economically?

A mayor has to be fair but with a no-nonsense attitude and the ability to make tough decisions and in negotiations. Service is what a city really is, nothing but a service company supported by tax revenue that's only product is serving the city residents. I have a problem with her being committed to Lakewood's past, present and future cute but meaningless political ploy. Does this mean she is going to bring the failures of the past and present continue into the future?

"I serve as an Account Executive at a large Cleveland-based company where I am responsible for a large book of business" so advertising is her game and BS is the name of the industry. That's not business experience, will all due respect, she is selling what other people are accomplishing.

I'm sure that she is a nice young dedicated educated lady, but she is too young, too weak, too inexperienced, too gullible, too all about form over function and doesn't understand that education does not equate to ability nor does it replace business experience and success. She has not acquired enough scar tissue from business experience to run a city the size of Lakewood with it's taxes, economical and development issues.

nor does it replace business experience and success.
Well let’s look at our two previous mayors.

Fitzy had zero business experience, in fact, he apparently had issues keeping a job. Big claim to fame was the change to automated trash pickup, which cost us our backyard pickup and didn’t save the city a dime. Had he stayed, his next great idea was a prison in Lakewood! Good thing he quit early to go to the county - where he was in the company of other “PUBLIC OFFICIALS!” He was PO 14, if you recall.

Next up is appointed by Fitz and current Mayor Summers. His claim to fame was obstensibly as a businessman, albeit inheriting the family business which he sold. We see how his “leadership” and business acumen resulted in the loss of the city’s largest employers. Woo-how, way to go! On top of that crowning achievement, he’s done a pretty good job of imitating Donald Trump - he lies, he divides the city, he loves a thug.

So, given those qualifications you think a mayor needs, Mr Baker, I’d say phooey on that. How about voting for someone who is honest and who cares about the city and not just themselves. They certainly couldn’t do any worse than the previous two mayors!
