Law Suit Against Carnegie Development?

Post by Bill Call »

Just passing on a hint passed on to me. The statement was that the City was "worried" about the possibility.

I suppose the biggest worry would be the discovery process. (if there is one). Just how much is Ed Fitzgerald's commission?

I think most readers, including me, would need some background information. In other words, who is Carnegie Development suing, and why?

Bill,

If the rumor is correct, it would make sense for a developer to sue the City of Lakewood. It’s incredibly fishy that the mayor who presided over the decline of Lakewood Hospital be awarded with the contract to develop Lakewood Hospital.

Thanks for sharing.

The entire Carnegie award is a sham.

The city pretended they were seriously looking at proposals from 6 developers. Narrowed down to two, nobody was surprised Carnegie was a finalist.

The principal of Carnegie was a donor to Sumners’ Mayoral campaign fund. That’s typical for developers to do when they know something is coming up and they want to curry favor with the decision makers.

Then the unsinkable Ed Fitzgerald rears his ugly head, out of nowhere, and he’s suddenly become a “development consultant!”

The man who orchestrated the demise of the hospital (and likely planned this entire scenario) is hired by one of the companies seeking the job - Carnegie!

Oh my, not TOO obvious, is it?

They don’t even bother worrying about how it looks because they don’t care - they have gotten away with their plan up until this point, so why think the dumb public will do anything about it?

Several people here, myself included, predicted Carnegie would get the contract months ago all the while City Hall was claiming it was seeking public input.

It’s all been a big sham.

As for Carnegie being sued, why they are used to it! Rustom Khouri has pages of lawsuits on the Cuyahoga docket and Carnegie has been sued over projects in several states. It’s all easily Googled.

Nothing new for them. See this thread with lots of info on lawsuits against Carnegie.

We can do better, but not with Summers in charge.

Unfortunately, this description of what has occurred and will occur is accurate. It calls for united citizen action for widespread municipal reform.

We should also attempt to understand, as Ms. Allen tried to do, the business relationship between the city's law director and Mr. Fitzgerald.

It is very hard to fight a corrupt City government unless the State or County gets involved. They are too afraid of the Cleveland Clinic to take action.

If there is a lawsuit against Carnegie I suspect that the discovery process will prove very interesting.

In my opinion, a lawsuit against Carnegie is highly unlikely. Public interest litigation against the City of Lakewood has been time-consuming for its participants with only mixed results.

I laud them for their commitment and efforts. We should be proud of each attorney and each plaintiff that sought justice for us.

My general view is that the City of Lakewood has been highly successful in its efforts and that the only solutions for citizens are now at the ballot box.

I remain disappointed that other local, state and federal agencies failed to take written citizen complaints seriously.
