Re: Cleveland Clinic inside Lakewood High School
I haven't seen anything yet about fees or insurance, or coverage for those who can't pay. I too would assume CCF wouldn't be doing this for free, but I don't know that yet. Anybody know anything about that?
Or whether the traditional school nurse will continue. And whether students treated there and found to need more care will go to a CCF hospital, or one of the family's choice.

Re: Cleveland Clinic inside Lakewood High School
This whole charade doesn't even seem legal. What this appears to be is a private business enterprise being permitted to set up shop and run their private business out of a public, 100% taxpayer-funded school building, rent-free. Also be mindful of the utility costs to run this clinic, such as electric, heat, water, etc. Utilities are not cheap.
Using this logic, Joe the Plumber could open up his plumbing company offices out of Lakewood High School, not pay any rent, and make a profit.
This sounds like a sweet deal for the Cleveland Clinic. Too sweet. I have never heard of such a thing.

I can understand that with the first week of school Christine Gordillo is probably busy, but I hope that she can answer some of our questions when she gets a minute.

Was there open bidding and proposal offerings for this service and its physical offerings?

Lakewood City Schools,
How about an honest answer.
You can spare us the PR.

Re: Cleveland Clinic inside Lakewood High School
If I were Lakewood City Schools I would lawyer-up, but...
- It has been said that the clinic in question will be open to the public. In my opinion, this opens up the door for major liability issues. For an extreme but possible example, consider a situation where someone from the public comes into the "clinic" with ailments such as Ebola, Tuberculosis, or Leprosy. While unlikely, it is still possible and could open the door for an epidemic in our school (s). Another unlikely but possible scenario is sexual offenders or "perverts" for lack of a better term using the "clinic" for unintended purposes.
- In the event of liability issues, who is held responsible? The Cleveland Clinic Foundation or Lakewood City Schools? For example, consider a scenario where a member of the public falls in the parking lot on their way in our out of the clinic? Who is responsible?
- Will Lakewood City Schools be footing the bill for the utilities to run the clinic, or will the utility usage be measured separately and billed to Cleveland Clinic? Evidently, Cleveland Clinic will already be using "our" building space rent-free.
Thus far, it is quite obvious that nobody used their heads and considered all of the questions that this stunt would raise. Who advised these folks that this was a legal or otherwise okay thing to do?
Perhaps the school district lawyers need to lawyer-up themselves!

There was not a formal bidding process to provide these services, which the District considers an extension of the services that were already being provided through the mobile units the last two school years.

An "extension?"
That is quite a stretch.

I think it's just this but with space within the building:
http://www.lakewoodcityschools.org/docs ... f?id=54505
So you'd have to give permission for your kids to use it ahead of time.
We never did the enrollment because we'd rather just take our kids to their regular pediatricians for all of that.
FWIW.

Ms. Gordillo: Thank you for your response.
With respect to the services previously provided by the mobile units, were those services provided to the school system under a written contract?

Ms. Gordillo:
On August 17th I posted several questions to you which you have yet to respond to. I'd like to add some further questions:
What is the final cost of the high school and what is the total square footage?
I await your speedy response.

Thanks for sharing these forms. The first page is astonishing in that it suggests that the school nurse, Katy Corrigan, is part of the Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital and that the City Schools are part of the Cleveland Clinic. Along the lines of Mr. Kindt's comments about liability on the part of the schools for a bad result, this form is misleading and blurs the line about who's who.

Ms. Gordillo,
I echo the questions posed by Mr. Monahan on August 17th on page one of this thread. Do you have an answer for me and Mr. Monahan yet? Thanks.
