So much hate for Bayes Avenue

Post by todd vainisi »

So, which city official's idea was it to replace every street adjacent to Roosevelt except the one they drove the trucks on for two years, Bayes avenue? It is in far worse shape than Athens on that stretch, or Lincoln (Brown was terrible so I understand that). They replaced Athens earlier in the year. Then they tore up Brown, which was a good move because that street is totally messed up. They've made it one way now, while they work on it, which is super inconvenient, but okay. But then a week later they go and tear the surface off Lincoln. And they are no where near done with Brown, it's got 5 foot deep holes on one side still. And they've chosen to warehouse all of the contruction material on Bayes where it intersects with Brown. And because all the material is there, it means they drive all their trucks up and down Bayes all day. So just so I make it clear - they have the access streets to Bayes avenue ripped up on either side of my home, while my actual street is totally f'ed up.

The residents of Bayes avenue have been living with the neighborhood all around them ripped up for the past 3 years while they replaced the school. Our street, which was already bad from decades of school pickup and parking lot traffic, is the only one that they don't have plans to repair? Some serious BS there.

I'm only 43, can you imagine what I'll be like when I'm 70? All the same, you try living with sound of construction and huge trucks coming down your completely residential, non-thru street for 3 years and see if it doesn't start to wear you down.

I suggest you contact City Hall....there could be a logical explanation.

For example, Bayes might have a different CDBG status than the other streets...which would mean that it is paved with federal money but on a different timetable.
It's also possible that the sewer situation on Bayes is distinct from the other streets....if you are in line for new sewers in a year or two, it would not make sense to repave now and have to re-dig up the whole thing again.

I will contact city hall, though it's easier to type/shout my complaints into the nether!

I can't imagine any scenario like you've described that wouldn't have been appropriate to fix when they were digging huge holes in Bayes to handle all the sewer hookups to the new school, but I don't know much about street repair or sewers.
