Funeral Procession For Officer David Fahey

This morning around 8:45am people started to gather along the funeral route. In Lakewood that would be the Hillard Bridge, south on Riverside Drive (SR237) and continue to Our Lady Of Angels for the church service.

I stopped by the small strip of land between Lakewood and Cleveland's West Park, home to many Cleveland and Fire Department workers. Giving hugs, talking, cleaning up the area around the "Fallen Heroes" monument, and then the procession came by. As they drew up to the monument, a line of officers that had been there for nearly an hour, stood to attention. The hearse carrying Officer David Fahey stopped, and all paused, and thought and prayed. Then it continued on.

There are no words to thank Police and Fire for what the do. They do not hesitate, they risk their asses for us.

So many lives were lost, touched, changed and ruined forever. Slow down in accident zones.

While it says WestPark, it is on the border between Lakewood and WestPark.


At 8:45am the crowd was gathering. The procession would not arrive for an hour.

After time for thoughts and a short prayer, Officer Fahey continued on his last ride..

Very poignant photos. It ought to give all of us pause to think and thank these brave men and women for what they do day and day out. That memorial bears the name of a cousin who was murdered in the line of duty many years ago,and there hasn't been a day that goes by when driving by that memorial that I offer a prayer for him and all of the others who have sacrificed for us.

I ran into a longtime friend of the Fahey family last night and they unrolled this story.

David came from a family of police officers, which is often the case. When David was one his father a police officer noticed a person driving with a flat tire, and signaled them over to the side of the road. He stopped and help the person change their tire. Suddenly a car came out of no where and struck and killed his father. They never caught the driver of that car crash. Thirty-Eight years later, David would die in a car accident.

Please slow down. So many lives changed and ruined forever to save a a couple minutes.
