Lakewoodites So Healthy that Avon Hospital is Desperate For Patients?

Post by Brian Essi »

Below is an email sent by CCF Avon Hospital at 2:00 am today drumming up patients.

The CCF Avon hospital has been open for a while now but has many empty beds while Fairview Hospital & ER remains jammed and over flowing.

Notice the fluffy claims made in the email: "beautiful architecture, functional efficiency and advanced technology"

Perhaps Avon hospital is having trouble because Lakewood has become the healthiest city in America just thinking about "space-aged technology" coming to the Lakewood Specialty Referral Center. You know, technology like: physicians assistants and doctors in residency with those stethoscope thingys.

Lakewood is gonna be great again!

RE: Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital Is Now Open

Cleveland Clinic - Avon Hospital

With the opening of Avon Hospital, you won’t have to leave Cleveland Clinic or Lorain County to get world-class inpatient care.

Get better-coordinated treatment.

Choosing to continue your care within the Cleveland Clinic system ensures a seamless transition from your physician to inpatient care and back. Your doctor and the doctors, nurses, pharmacists and therapists at Avon Hospital will function as a fully coordinated team during and after your stay.

Maximize safety and minimize costs.

When a hospital doesn’t have complete access to your medical history, it is primarily up to you to recall your prior tests, lab results and medications. Any inaccuracy or forgetfulness may expose you to risks like dangerous drug interactions and the unnecessary expense of duplicating tests you’ve already undergone.

Avon Hospital staff will have immediate, ongoing visibility to your Cleveland Clinic electronic medical records, so we’ll always know exactly what you need—and what you don’t—during your stay.

Experience the benefits of the “hospital of the future.”

Avon Hospital offers an exceptionally welcoming environment for patients and guests. By integrating beautiful architecture, functional efficiency and advanced technology into the space, our facility is designed to promote healing and reduce hospitalization costs.

So if you need inpatient care, tell your caregivers, your family and your medical transport that you want to come to Avon Hospital. We look forward to serving you.

Sincerely,

Is there a need for inpatient care?

I thought the future of healthcare was outpatient.

They must be lying if they say it is the "hospital of the future."

I wonder if they actually have data to substantiate the reduction in cost claims in this solicitation. If not, it is misleading as that term is understood in consumer protection law.

Reduced costs for whom?

They do not dare claim it will reduce the patient's costs!

Perhaps they should get one of these to attract patients.

I think she means, "Before you have that aneurism, heart attack, or stroke, tell everyone you need to go to a FULL SERVICE hospital in Avon." You'll recognize it, it's a big glass rectangle.

The CCF hired Frank Gehry for their Las Vegas center for brain health. Not THAT'S architecture.

Does Avon Hospital have a Michael P. Summers or Kevin M. Butler specialty wing or endowed chair?

+1 to the inflatable advertising. Thank you Kate McCarthy, and LOL.

Brian/Mark,

I uncovered this national report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics regarding the future of healthcare:

https://www.bls.gov/careeroutlook/2014/spring/art03.pdf

Very interesting to note that the headline is:

"Healthcare: millions of jobs now and in the future".The report was written in the spring of 2014. Ironically around the same time frame of the subsidium report.

"Hospitals accounted for the largest num- ber of jobs in healthcare, about 39 percent of total healthcare employment in 2013. Employ- ers include general medical and surgical hospitals, psychiatric and substance abuse hospitals, and specialty hospitals. Most jobs are in private hospitals, but some jobs are in hospitals funded by federal, state, or local governments".

Did any democratic council member review the national trends regarding healthcare spending? Only in Lakewood is "healthcare changing". Of course, under this current city council, changing for the worse.

Ouch! This is so rich coming from the Cleveland "I love to duplicate all your doctor's tests and charge you for it" Clinic!

No, they did not. Our so-called "Democratic" council members bought into the Clinic's narrative...hook, line, and sinker.
They totally ignored the fact that America is getting older and sicker every day.
The Health Care industry will continue to balloon as the US ages, and as America's unhealthy diet fuels diseases such as diabetes. Ironically, that poor diet includes many of the foods featured at many of Lakewood's bars and restaurants, which are now the engine of our local economy.

America is going to have a single payer system within the next 20 years....unfortunately Lakewood will no longer have its hospital or its once-strong medical industry.
That means all of those government dollars will be flowing OUT of Lakewood.
Lakewood also won't derive any benefit from Clevelanders coming into our city to get health care.
Team Summers doesn't want "those people" coming over the border.....just another part of the quiet bigotry here in Lakewood.
