So what are these Deck Awards called?

Woodies?

Or do we add a suitable adjective and offend absolutely everyone?

Maybe it's a LakeWoodiE. A sampling of acceptance speech intros...
* Achieving this LakeWoodiE was a personal journey...
* Like so many, I did not win this LakeWoodiE alone. I would like to thank...
* It takes a talented team to win a LakeWoodiE...
* I am humbled to have won multiple LakeWoodieS in Year 2016...

Like Antoinette Perry (Tony) Awards, I have always felt recognition should pay homage to Publisher, Jim O’Byran for supplying the paper and digital space to the community all these years. For that reason, I suggest “O’B Awards,” so not to be confused with Obie Awards.

Brian Essi wrote:It is time to start nominations for the 2016 Deck Awards:

1. Best 2016 Thread:

I nominate Mark Kindt's "Civic Accountability--Honesty in Local Government I"
http://lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewt ... =7&t=23643

The print version of of the LO suggested this might be the best thread in 12 years so perhaps it should be nominated for the best thread ever on the Deck.

2. Funniest 2016 Post:

????
Mr. Kindt's thread has been nothing short of devastating. An indictment of Summers, Butler and City Council. He gets my nod for Thread of the Year.
A close second is the Thread That Wasn't. The thread that could never be: an adequate response. Summers, Butler and City Council stand in silence, faces to the wall, murmuring "the greater good" while quietly, desperately hoping that it will all go away.

Funniest post - That goes to C.Mager. Any time you can work in an homage to Strother Martin as The Boss Man in Cool Hand Luke while discussing Lakewood politics...well that's a slam dunk.
A close second was Jim Kenny alerting all of us that he was on some sort of spiritual quest to become the best Jim Kenny he could be. I picture him wandering the beach at Edgewater Park forever searching. Still laughing at that image.

Finally new category.... LOCAL HERO.
And Mr. Essi, that is all yours. You earned it.

2017. Marx, Bullock, Nowlin. Kick them to the curb.

Does a huge disservice for the thousands of others from day one.

As I have said years ago, each post is loved for its individuality and the insight into both the person and their thoughts. Like snowflakes. All together they make up this dysfunctional snow drift called the LO Deck.

2016 Deck Awards seems good, after all you know what they say about us?

Well at least it is all positive!

(lifted and edited from another thread)

* The Deck needs a video clip Hall of Fame.

* The "First Follower: Leadership Lessons from Dancing Guy" clip shared by Tim Liston is, (should be) by acclimation, a HOFer. It's also an early entry into the "Best Video Clip - 2017" for the 2017 awards season.

* My nomination for "Best Video Clip - 2016" for the 2016 awards season is mbuckley's "The Greater Good." Also a first ballot HOFer.

LOL. I need more shows.

I nominate Mr Rossen's following post on October 23, 2016 as the "Most Ironic Deck Post of 2016:
Corey Rossen wrote: Get off the field, frosh, you're not making sense. Stop trying so hard to fit in with your club. Know your role.
Mr Rossen obsessively "made no sense", "tried so hard to fit in with his club", denied his "role" and denied even his friendships with a Carson and Uldricks.

It is truly ironic that he decided to end his run on the Deck with that priceless farewell post projecting his own feelings and emotions on another Decker.
