Someone (probably from the nearby apartments) dumped a couch on the curb in front of the Division of Youth Building. This leads me to believe that they obviously know what they are doing. Could putting it on the Division of Youth's curb be due to the fact that the owner of the apartment next door is several thousand dollars delinquent in taxes and garbage fees? Where are the tax lien thieves when you need them? Hmm...

These items could not be collected by the refuse people yesterday because they were crawling with bedbugs:

So I am not accused of complaining, this is my solution:

1. When noncollectable items like this are discovered, a letter needs to be sent immediately to the property owner, giving him or her 48 hours to remove the items from public view.
2. If the property owner does not comply, the city needs to hire an exterminator to treat the items and send a heavy fine to the property owner. It's in the city ordinances and is called "nuisance abatement".

It 's all very simple. Too simple for Mike Summers and his Company.

FWIW.

I have been doing these less often. I have to say that the refuse people are REALLY trying, but they just can't keep up, especially around the 1st of the month. This leads me to believe that City Hall has a much larger issue on its hands. Actually, a few larger issues:

1. It appears that nobody in the city cares if garbage lies out on their street all week. Where is the pride?
2. As more and more properties are rented out to "rent-by-the-month" residents, this will continue.

Just a reminder:
1701.02 ENFORCEMENT.

The Mayor or Director of Public Safety, and any officer or employee designated for that purpose by the Mayor or Director of Public Safety are hereby charged with the enforcement of this Sanitary Code. (Ord. 59-08. Passed 7-21-08.)
1703.26 OFFICIAL CHARGED WITH THE ENFORCEMENT OF THIS SANITARY CODE .

"Official charged with the enforcement of this Sanitary Code" means the Mayor and any other officer or employee designated for that purpose by the Mayor.
(Ord. 59-08. Passed 7-21-08.)
I would like to thank the refuse people because they work their fingers to the bone every day, bedbugs and roaches and all.

Refuse people = A+
Summers = F for failure

My suggestions are falling on deaf ears, If the city receives a complaint about trash on tree lawns, send out a notice to the property owner, 24 hours is sufficient, to remove it, or the city will remove it, fine the property owner, who in returns deducts that charge from the security deposit, problem solved.

There is so much trash in Ward 4 (especially around the 1st of every month) that it must get its own video.

Why do we have to wait so long for a response to our concerns from our elected officials concerning this issue, . ? WHY... The city looks like a third world country. furniture, mattress's, toilets all over the city, and the city does nothing about it. How long ago did Jackie post this thread? 2 years ago? How many replies have been posted, with the same complaint? At the next consul meeting, I'm going and have a word or two with those attending, will you join me?

tell me the date and what time you will pick me up!

Although I have seen a slight improvement, the mayor still has a lot of work to do.

The garbage people have been working REALLY hard these past few weeks. I suspect the mayor is upset about all of the scrutiny and now has them doing extra work. I believe I have also seen them cutting private lawns that are overgrown.

Why do these people do all this work and some others at City Hall get paid twice as much to do half the work?

Just a reminder that these are supposed to be out-of-sight, not on the tree lawn.

I can't take it anymore, I'm up to here with the b --l s--t, Lakewood looks like New Orleans after Katrina. If my plumber, my electrician, my trusty G T Brothers auto repair, did this kind of work, not enforcing the rules, enforcing the laws, , they would be fired..... My hillbilly neighbor said, "burn it where it lays" they will take notice then, I thought that was too extreme., but can anyone come up with a solution? What to do with Lakewood's ugly trash, put out too early or too late. ? I'm 64 years old,

I want to see pretty things in my final days, not toilets, mattresses and filthy sofas. I want to see my city be great, in every aspect. The trash is first, then the crime, trash + crime.... they go together, GET WITH IT CITY HALL.

Driving home one evening, I got pulled over, completely innocent, my tail lights were out, everything else worked fine, I didn't know my lights were out, I usually don't walk around my car, every time I START IT, TO SEE IF EVERYTHING IS WORKING. He didn't give me a warning, but a ticket, $200.00, , Can you imagine the revenue, the income Lakewood would receive yearly, if they only enforced the law... regarding trash set out? Am I the only one who can see this? The officer checked all my life history, I'm good to go, he didn't have to give me a ticket.... it also cost $75.00 to fix it,,, $275.00 for a tail light, really? While the real damage done to our city, the trash,,,, is ignored..... who is more offensive?

Today, yet again, at the top of the Detroit Rd hill into the valley, a mattress and metal frame strewn across the grass and parking area. What a lovely sight to see as you enter Lakewood from Rocky River!

Pick up is Monday so it will likely sit for a few days. :x

The efficient, diligent and ever public safety fist, progressive Fairview park Fire Department inspected my property, on Lorain Road, they listed a number of things, that were in violation, an outlet needs a cover, too many combustions near a heat source. Breaker Box, all slots must be filled. Filled ? With what, Fill in blank slots, power that doesn't go any where? I wasn't there, do you think they would mark, identify the issues? No red tape, just, somewhere in the basement? I have to go looking for it? I'm an old man, you want me to grab a flashlight and go looking into a dark basement? Everything was good for the last 20 years, why is it now, in violation?
