The city is looking for members for a task force exploring a new foundation for "wellness." Please, consider applying!

Ah, it's the legendary "Wellness Foundation".
hmmm....I wonder who chooses the members?
I suspect the same people who destroyed the hospital.
It's interesting that City Hall pretends like there is no Referendum vote in November.

Lord Lakewood chooses. All others must obey!

It should be noted that the job qualifications have been written to give the inside track to LHA and LHF Trustees.
If you don't believe me, take a look.
Does anyone doubt that Jay Foran and Jay Carson will be selected?

These are qualities they will be hard pressed to find amongst their little cabal:
Familiarity with understanding and/or representing the diverse demographic and geographic populations of the Lakewood community
Understanding the concerns of the vulnerable and traditionally under-represented populations found in the city of Lakewood

Let's cut through the shit---- if there's a monetary settlement let's put it into the sewers, compliance with the need to upgrade our wastewater treatment.
I would suggest that that would be the most equitable treatment of any distribution of judgement proceeds.

They will probably be the same members from the Active Living Task Force. After all, much time and planning was done during the time that they say they were not meeting, but they really were!

We now have proof that the Active Living Task Force was a direct result of Lakewood Hospital and the Association, which is why they got the report before any residents.
We got played, again.

What is your take on the formation of the new healthy organization? Should it be frowned upon, mocked and ridiculed because of the situation you say it derived from? Or, should it be the "lemonade" made from the situation. There is a real opportunity for the community to capitalize and benefit from an organization such as this (just as other communities have community-health related organizations). I understand it does not provide jobs or the same healthcare a hospital offers, but should the community as a whole take a step towards an opportunity to be heart-healthier or turn its collective nose up and shun the opportunity? You know the downside of a lack of heart-health, what is your stance?

Re: Have Some Extra Time to Improve the City?
They're talking about a new PRIVATE foundation that will have (only) about $17 million. We HAD a Lakewood Hospital Foundation that had OVER $34 MILLION. If you look at the kinds of grants the LHF gave each year, there were LOTS of wellness-related programs that were not specifically The Hospital. If you do some very simple math, you will see that this New Foundation will have only about HALF of what we ALREADY HAD, doing approximately the same kind of grants. Except some new board members, hand-picked by the Mayor and his cronies, will get paid for new jobs that they create for themselves.
I DARE the Mayor to put 4 people from Save Lakewood Hospital, onto the New Foundation Board.

The task force members may be unpaid, but the head of the new foundation will be a paid position. Foundation heads and top level staff ARE paid positions. The average pay for foundation leaders is over $129,000.

Same question for you that I posed to Jim a few posts ago - "should the community of Lakewood support this?"Bridget Conant wrote:The task force members may be unpaid, but the head of the new foundation will be a paid position.
