Storm Causes Problems And Fire On Clifton Blvd.

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Around 3:00pm Lakewood Fire was called to 15600 Clifton Blvd, for wires arcing and potential fire. As they arrived at the scene they saw the arcing and helped one of the people get their car out of the garage that was now smoking. Because of the location of the primary wires, and the garage, Lakewood Fire could only contain the blaze and stop it from jumping to another structure. The garage was an entire loss, but no one was hurt and cars were removed. The weather caused another 6 calls wire down this afternoon. If you see a down wire, or a wore touching a structure call Lakewood Fire or Police immediately!

Great work Lakewood Fire and Police!

Thanks for the tip on the hotline! 216-407-2634

Circle shows where the arcing started but moved down the power line to the garage.

I hear from a credible source that CEI was informed that the wire was arcing at least one hour before the garage actually caught fire. When police dispatch called CEI to warn them of the urgency of the situation and that a fire could possibly start, they were told by CEI that "we are in storm mode, we will get there when we get there". Several hours, flames, and one garage later, a pile of rubble is all that appears left.

I hope that the homeowner sees this thread and keeps the pictures as evidence if he wishes to pursue legal action against CEI. CEI knew for over an hour about the urgency of this. In my opinion, it is gross negligence on their part. Maybe PUCO would also be interested in investigation.

My condolences to the homeowner.

I live in the area and the power went off and on briefly about 10 times for about an hour or two before finally cutting out around 3. Now I know why. Thanks.

There was enough power going through the wires to fry anyone nearby. All they could do was help the people get their cars and belongings out, and make sure it did not spread to other structures in the area, which they did without incident. That would be a good job in my book. Not great, but damn good considering.
