Re: Lakewood Hospital Closing...
They gotta hurry. Once it's gone no court will order it "put back" the way it was. They have good lawyers that know this and it's all part of the plan.
A successful referendum can stop the process, but if it's already gone, it's too late. They have to close up shop ASAP.

Jim,
Thanks for verifying what I heard from another good source.
This proves what you have been saying all along.
The "leaders" have been played and they have played those that supported them.
CCF is walking away with $70M+ of our asset value because city leaders are cowards and fools.

Time will tell.
Personally I would rather have been wrong on some of this.
I hope we end up saying these were the smartest guys ever, this plan made us solvent and whole for decades.
The interest from $70 million in the bank, would have kept this city whole and not needing tax increases for a decade or more.
Let's see for all of our sake, I hope they knock this out of the park.

Jim having gone through the lies, the lack of inclusiveness, the lack of transparency during the Drug Mart deal ,which was a precursor to all of this, ( by the way give up on the idea that there will be any lessons learned or changes coming ), I can tell you this for sure , they were never the smartest people in the room. What they were and what they remain, is determined to win. Determine to assure that commercial interests trump residents interests and more than willing to do whatever it takes to defeat the constituents they supposedly represent.

My general question is...
Do you hope for failure? To prove you were right?
City Hall has kept us in the dark for over 5 years on this. Transparency at an all time low, trust also low. But City Hall was just rewarded for this behavior.
History would show us, it will only get worse.
But for the sake of my properties, my business, and my friends, I hope I am wrong and they hit it out of the park.
Otherwise, FUBAR.

Previously I heard that the clinic planned to close Lakewood Hospital when it opened Avon much later in the year.

Dan
It's in their best interest to get the place closed and vacated as soon as possible. They know there will likely be a referendum and vote. Even if the vote is to overturn the council decision, no court will order CCF to reopen the hospital.
They know this. They are in a hurry.

Re: Lakewood Hospital Closing...
Here is Save Lakewood Hospital's official response to the closing date. This has been shared with TV, radio and printed media.
Today as the announcement was made that Lakewood Hospital will cease providing inpatient care, we continue to gather signatures for a referendum on the March ballot to save the hospital. There was no open bidding for the hospital deal even though 3 viable health care operators expressed earnest interest in maintaining and improving Lakewood Hospital. Our city taxes will go up and health care for Lakewood and surrounding communities will be compromised by this morally corrupt move to close Lakewood Hospital. We continue our campaign.

Re: Lakewood Hospital Closing...
The first time my name appeared on the Deck was April 13, 2015 when JOB posted my letter to City Council.
In that letter, I pointed out that the Clinic wanted to get out of its significant financial liability to under the Definitive Agreement.
Remember, shortly before the election and on the eve of being authorized to "negotiate" with the Clinic, Kevin Butler made a public legal opinion that the Clinic had no liability under the Definitive Agreement.
Butler's opinion was:
1. Completely wrong.
2. Proximately caused damage to the City because he essentially told CCF that the City had no negotiating leverage--that's why the Master Agreement is worse than the original LOI.
3. Likely a fraudulent inducement for many to support the Master Agreement on December 21, 2015.
As soon as Summers signed the Master Agreement on 12/21/15, CCF got out from under its liability under the Definitive Agreement and it owned LHA and had complete control of it.
Please note that today's announcement was not made by LHA or the City--it was made by CCF.
LHA is now a complete fiction and the City has no control of Lakewood Hospital at all. So the announcement is no surprise.
So what we are witnessing is CCF doing what it pleases to close the hospital and take all the money they can--no surprise that's what our City agreed to upon the advice of Kevin Butler.
They no longer have to "pretend" that they care about Summers, Lakewood or the sock puppets on LHA.
The faster they close Lakewood, the more money they can take--its just that simple.
Summers, Butler, Pae and the stooges on BL will continue to look foolish by claiming CCF is a good "partner" and "transforming healthcare"
They all got what they wanted.
