Will they print the ad in the "Ohio Neighborhood News?"

Bridget,
We must remember that the Summers and FitzGerald "fake" newspaper is actually called the "Lakewood Neighborhood News" ...
For those of you following at home, more information about the Summers and FitzGerald "fake" newspaper folly can be found at the following threads, as well as other threads here on the Deck:
- "Cleveland Scene Calls Out Team Summers On Fake FitzGerald Newspaper" at http://lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewt ... =7&t=22280
"Total Political Scam Brought To You By Ed & Mike" at http://lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewt ... =7&t=22273
"FitzGerald/Summers Has Come To Shut You Down" at http://www.lakewoodobserver.com/forum/v ... =7&t=22251
"Ed FitzGerald Mailing?" at http://lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewt ... =7&t=22247

"Rumor Of Ed FitzGerald's Support of Defendant Summers Causes Halloween Costume Crisis ..." at http://lakewoodobserver.com/forum/viewt ... =7&t=22249
The last thread is really just a friendly reminder that local stores throughout NEO are reporting huge sales on Fitz! costumes this Halloween season. Hurry now!

What do the rules say about this?
I saw that Todd Heckler posted a pretty traditional looking ad and Jim got it removed but then you posted this just hours later. I am not being facetious I really don't know the rules.

Pssssssssssst, it is not an ad, there is no real movie. It is a parody, not an ad.
The Ad, was a political ad. The smaller problem was the placement, the real issue was it was an illegal political ad. Get it, the ad itself wasn't legal.
You know we do not let ads on the Deck except in rare occasions, when the print version screwed up or it is a community event. But we like them to be legal.
Get it? Unless you think that was a parody. too. Other people have posted graphics in their signature, just not ads.
Todd removed it, no harm no foul, now it would seem like history.

As you said, this comedy meme is not an ad.Vince Frantz wrote:What do the rules say about this?

It doesn't advocate anyone's vote...it simply makes fun of Fitzy and his sidekick Summers.

So if Matt would have included one more line of text, it would be an ad?

By the law, I'd say yes (but I'm not a lawyer).
That meme would be funny at any time of the year...not just before an election.
An ad that says "Vote for the Candidate" isn't funny any time of the year.

Vince,
You know that I like you a lot.
But, I'm not giving you free legal advice on the Deck.

and Mike - it's not a meme until more than 3 people share it. Its just an image for now. We'll see where this goes.

When I was in college (way back in the 80s), the freshman "face book" was an actual book.

Vince,
This will be a good test as to how well your civility code works here on this thread.
There are folks "new" to the Deck who don't realize that we are actually friends.
They also don't tend to read entire threads very well.
So, let's wait until this thread gets to page 3 and everyone is accusing me of attacking you.
I bet civility goes out the window.
Jim O'Bryan buys both the winner and loser drinks.
Deal?

That's true Matt. Your comments and withholding of valuable legal advice should not be considered by anyone to be an attack on me.
One time FitzGerald joked at a council meeting that after meeting with me for over 3 hours during the work day on a contentious topic that he should send me a bill. The audience laughed but some people didn't find that funny (namely my wife).
Mike - it's a shame that the term "meme" has also come to mean simple witty images shared online but it's origins and uses stem from genetics and actually played a big part in the thinking behind the Observer back in the day. You may remember conversations on spiral dynamics and its related memes before the paper launched. These forces are playing out like mad right now and the Observer isn't helping cross the divide like it was supposed to. So while at one time I would have just taken these things as light hearted jokes, I think its gone too far and there isn't much "outside looking in" going on anymore.
Anyone remember the "City, know thyself!" meeting? I don't even know who was there besides Jim and Ken Warren (RIP).
