Lakewood Board Of Education Seeks Public Relations/Communications Services Person

Parties interested in applying for the position of Public Relations/Communication Services are encouraged to consider the Request for Proposal below and submit your proposal to the Treasurer's Office of the Lakewood City School District, 1470 Warren Road, Lakewood, Ohio 44107.
REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL OF
PUBLIC RELATIONS/COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES FOR
THE LAKEWOOD CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION
1. INTENT
The Lakewood City School District Board of Education (the "Board") invites qualified individuals to submit a proposal to assist the Board with public relations and communications activities for the School District.
The Board reserves the right to select one or more individuals. The best interest of the Lakewood City Schools shall be the determining factor.
The board anticipates entering into an agreement with the selected individuals starting January, 2009, or upon mutual agreement of the Board and firm(s)/individual(s).
2. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants who respond to this Request for Proposal ("RFP") must meet the following minimum requirements:
2.1 Credentials should include communications, journalism degree, or something equivalent such as significant experience working with public relations and/or communications.
2.2 Available for evening events and some weekends.
2.3 Must have no substantive conflict of interest in representing the Board.
2.4 Commitment to the Lakewood City School District demonstrated by current or previous involvement with Lakewood City Schools.
2.5 Must be a Lakewood Resident.
2.6 Must be technologically literate (familiarity with digital photography; Adobe Photoshop or the equivalent; and web site design) and able to work with district technicians on TV Channel 74.
3. SCOPE OF SERVICES
3.1 The board is interested in improving the district's communication and outreach to the community, parents, staff, and other key stakeholders.
The successful Applicant will provide services including, but not limited to:
3.2.1 Community Newsletter and Annual Report.
3.2.2 Press Releases, regular articles for the local papers and web-sites including photographs of school district activities.
3.2.3 Website development and timely uploading of announcements, articles/photos of District events.
3.2.4 Assistance with administrative and teacher efforts to communicate with parents
3.2.5 Board assistance with communication regarding major District initiatives.
3.2.6 Special projects as determined by the Board and/or its designee.
3.2.7 Other public relations/communications functions as determined by the Board and/or its designee.

5 SUBMITTAL LETTER
Applicant's shall submit a cover letter, addressed to the Treasurer, which provides an overview of his or her offer and qualifications, as well as the name, title and phone number of the person to whom the Board may direct questions concerning the proposal. The letter should also include a resume.
The cover letter and resume should be accompanied by a statement of 900 words or less structured as an article for a local newspaper, describing the benefits to the district and the community of having a public relations officer, of hiring the applicant specifically for the position and examining what the applicant would make of the position over the next year.
All materials should be sent to Treasurer, Lakewood City Schools, 1470 Warren Road, Lakewood, Ohio 44107.
6 REFERENCES
A minimum of three (3) references who can attest to the Applicant's skills in the areas outlined above under Scope Of Services must be provided.
7. FORM OF CONTRACT
The Board desires to engage the selected applicant as a consultant on an at-will basis for an unspecified period of time commencing in January, 2009. The Board intends to negotiate and enter into a contract with the best qualified, most responsible individual whose proposal is determined to be in the best interest of the Lakewood City School.
Fees will be negotiated between the applicant and the Board; fee structure will be commensurate with the market and the applicant's experience. Note that the Board expects that all reimbursable charges will be charged at the Applicant's actual cost, without additional mark-up, and with prior approval of the Board or its designee.
