Is it Time To Return to The Regional Income Tax Agency?

Post by Bill Call »

According to some new information I received from RITA the cost would be about $450,000 per year. That is much less than the projected cost when the City left RITA. RITA has also implemented a new audit program that allows it to access IRS and State income tax information.

The Lakewood income tax department does a fine job but it costs about $1 million per year.

I also got a quote from Paychex on payroll. It was a verbal, ballpark quote for about $30,000 per year.

The City should also look into a better time keeping system. There is some "lost" time out there. (hat tip to secret source # 2).

You have got to stop calling your relative "secret source."

You are confusing secret sources.

The cost of the in house income tax collections is higher than estimated. The cost of RITA is lower than estimated. Since it would cost nothing to convert to RITA I thought it might be worth considering. On the other hand the finance department is well run and the money "saved" might not be as much as I might think.

There is not only a lot of lost time there is also a lot of "lost" equipment.

Worry less about the source and more about lost time, lost equipment and lost opportunity.
