City responsible for damages?

Does anyone know if the city is financially responsible for damages caused by the police, or possibly a swat vehicle?
My neighbors, who are rentors, live where the violence occured Sunday. They currently have their windows boarded up and broken glass and window frames laying on the ground.
Our front yard and side yard is pretty well rutted up, and a couple beds of flowers are squashed. In addition two large sections of sandstone walk were pulverized.
I asked the neighbor today if they had heard whether damages will be repaired. She told me that as far as she knew they had to get it cleaned up and repaired.

I don't think the victims of crime reparations would apply. First the applicant has to have been a direct victim of the crime, not merely collateral damage. Second, it deals with mediacal expenses, lost wages, etc., not property damage.

Chris, you may want to call your homeowners carrier for the damages. Depending on the policy language and deductibles you may have some coverage. Although there may exclusions for public emergency..

If worse comes to worse, give me a call I'll come over and help where I can. I feel responsible as one of the people that told you to move to Lakewood. Good people like you we have to keep here.

Also have some large sandstone slabs I have been saving but if you would rather have the sand stone replace with sandstone let me know.

Suzanne/Jeff: Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I'm going to check with the city to see if anything can be done for the family next door - they have told me that their landlord is blaming them for what happened and has given them a thirty day notice as of the 1st of the month. I don't think they're in any position to be able to get the the windows repaired. It would be nice to get that cleaned up soon as well as our walk and yard so its not a reminder of what happened.
Jim: thanks for the offer...no need to feel responsible; we lived in Lakewood prior to experiencing the O'Bryan Effect. I may need to see if I can tempt you into selling your stockpile of sandstone. We definitely want to replace it in kind.

P.S. If anyone has any leads on a large family house for rent, I would be interested in hearing about it. Our neighbor has six kids and has less than a month to find a place. She wants to stay in Lakewood so the kids can remain in Lakewood schools.

Don't know if it's big enough, but there's half of a duplex on Alameda a couple of houses from the water department. There's a for rent sign in front. We'd love to have a nice family move in the area.
