Not if we annex them first! And now is the time.
One night I was unveiling one of the "guerrilla" project I feel compelled to try now and then. That night it was annexing Cleveland with the help of the Rockport Militia.
The idea for the film, and documentary was simple enough. Early Sunday morning 50 or more militia would climb into buses and cabs, even walking to W45th and set up blockades that say "Welcome to Lakewood."
Militia members would be kind and lean over to motorists and walkers handing them welcome to Lakewood booklets. Point out the niceties of Lakewood, schools, etc. Monday morning the flyers would be delivered by mail to all residents in Lakewood's newest 5th Ward. While Lakewood pushes to annex, we get the residents pushing to secede from Cleveland. Lakewood gains the Water Plant and pumping station, allowing us to control water prices and our future. Another theater, more churches, some land banked areas for the big box stores some crave, and the prize Vila Zapata!
Ken Warren that night sent me a link I am looking for, where a person had studied Cleveland and it's dismal future back in the 70s I want to say. In it he goes onto the fall of Cleveland based on decisions made that had made it a industrial town and how it would shed residents, and become to large to sustain itself with, low or no wage earners. The only way for Cleveland or the county to save itself was to annex Cleveland. One example used was Lakewood. He had based it on square mileage and density. My plan was based on the beaches, social structures, and WATER. Perhaps Ken can find the link, I will look later today.
Since that time we have other projects for the Rockport Militia, grabbing West Park before every Cleveland Fireman and police officer moves. West to Wagar Road, ending the dog park dispute and controlling both sides of the cliffs!
While they regionalize and get week, we grow and get stronger.
