Roadside memorials- R.I.P. Pluto

Post by Bill Davis »

Pluto fans... we got snuffed by the International Astronomers this week. Clyde Tombaugh must be turning in his grave!

Please contribute to the Pluto memorial. It's in the Emerald Canyon... you know where it is:

He quoted a colleague in Prague as saying, "It demonstrates how belligerent and self-centered planetary astronomers can be."

Those arrogant astronomers have stuck it to us again. There is no good reason that we had to learn a new way to pronounce Uranus or now to unlearn the names of the other planets.

Don't we have a say in this?

Sorry, the trinity squared is simply too important to ignore.

Didn't you already?

I only see this benefitting the printers.

My wife and I were so moved we drove down. It was very touching. The shrine is growing and there were people around looking sad. I think in the next couple days this could be as big as Graceland.

I think Lakewood and others should grab the gusto. This is bigger than Jesus on a perogi. This is much more moving.

Nice work and a tip of the hat to Bill and Jan.

Poor Pluto.

From elsewhere:

I guess the astronomers are now debating whether to award Pluto a costellation prize.

The memorial is gone, as of this morning. (Monday)

Thanks for your positive comments and support.

In the P.D. they had a very sad letter:

This demotion is personal

My heart is broken. Seventy-six years ago, on Feb. 18, 1930, I was born, and Pluto was discovered. I thought of Pluto as my twin. A few years ago, after a near-fatal illness, my doctor said I must have been born under a lucky star. I told him it was my lucky planet. Now Pluto has been relegated to a nonplanet status. Where does that leave me?

Pluto back in the news today, a thank you to the creators from Fairview Park.

Why on Earth (or maybe, I should say Pluto?) would you take down a perfect good-news story that would have been picked up by not just local media but national media. While putting "Metro Parks" on everyone' lips and minds. This could have been Metro Park's Jesus Pirogi.

It's Gone!
The Pluto sign has disappeared from the "planet walk" as of Friday a.m. Don't know whether it was an official removal or somebody collecting a souvenir.

There's no place like Pluto and there so no place like California.
