3 Birds

Does 3 Birds have a website? I could have sworn they did.

I went there once and didn't like it, but that was a long time ago. I should try it again.

Hi,

I have to ask anyone who cares about animals to not go to this restaurant because they serve Foie Gras. And when you decide to go elsewhere, let 3Birds know why. E-mail: JBell@Bonniebell.com. This is not the fine modern American food with imagination that they advertise. I suspect that the people that work and go to 3 Birds aren't thinking about this horrible practice that they are supporting. http://www.3birdsrestaurant.com/menu.html

This practice has been banned by both Israel and the Pope as being too cruel. When was the last time both of them agreed on anything? Many countires have banned fois gras and the entire EU is debating banning it as well. California have banned this product and legislation is pending to ban it in New York, Mass. and Illinois. Chicago has just banned the product and legislation is pending in Philadelphia. Why not Lakewood? Lakewood is a caring city that shouldn't support the torture of animals. This restaurant should be able to replace fois gras on their menu and do just fine.

Watch the video and see how it is made - if you can't watch how your food is produced - don't eat it.

Let's make a law banning this in Lakewood restaurants/bars. To pay for enforcement, we could add an additional 2% tax on all restaurant/bar food.

To my knowledge there is only one restaurant in Lakewood that is doing this - I don't think we need additional taxes to enforce this.

Does anyone know of any other Lakewood restaurant that serves this?

......and similar arguments can be made for banning veal. Indeed compelling arguments can be made relative to chickens and eggs.....and immersing a LIVE lobster in boiling water......or steaming clams.....or breeding a turkey with such a large breast that its legs can't support it.....or eating LIVE raw oysters.....or feed lots.....or dairies....or slaughter yards

I think Lakewood has got some much bigger fish to fry than addressing a Fois gras ban...

Don,

IMHO posting that picture wasn't any different than Pro Life people holding up signs of fetuses. It's mental and emotional vandalism. I couldn't choose to look, it was there. Expressing your opinion and providing the link was fine - foisting that picture on an unsuspecting readership is horrible.

I'm an animal lover, I don't eat foit gras, and I don't need that picture in my head. Now its there and I will suffer with it for a long time - needlessly.

Your attempt to make a point was thoughtless and cheap. Shame on you.

Jim - this thread should come with a disclaimer. It's very upsetting. Suzanne

I took down the image that Donald Farris linked to, but I did not destroy the link.

I emailed the following to Mr. Farris:

"Don-

I have edited your post about fois gras because the image you linked to was too big.

If you want to download that image, resize it, post it somewhere and link to it again, that's up to you.

dl"

While as an administrator, I am concerned about what images appear on the Deck and while the content of this image is disturbing, I am far more concerned that the linked image made the thread impossible to read and that the image was so large, it had to be scrolled to be seen.

I didn't see the image, but if the only rule on the LO forum is that we use real names, then such images, while apparantly the one being discussed was disturbing, would require a new rule, one defining what is "disturbing".

I'm not attempting to rock the boat here, but only highlighting, again more for those that view the LO and not post for their own reasons, who greatly outnumber those who do post, that as of now, the only rule, as I understand it, is we must use real names.

I took the image down because it was too big.

I left the link.

I advised Don how to grab, resize and repost the image.

There are other rules in the Terms of Service agreement that have to do with not posting porn, not posting threatening or slanderous language, etc.

I don't care if the image featured adorable puppies - if it's too big and renders the Deck unreadable, it's coming down. This was not a content-related decision.

Add Heinens to the boycott...they sell a pate that contains fois gras.

As long as we're boycotting, add Pier W and Swingos. Both restaurants take living oysters, pry open their shells with a dull knife and serve them to be swallowed whole while STILL LIVING (cue spooky music). Pier W even serve theirs with a sauce called Bloody Mary sauce!

see I was right. we do need the tax to pay for enforcement. and what about the fish's feelings - how would you like to have a hook jabbed into your mouth? :)

Doug

PS In spirit of the law, we should notify Rocky River about Heinens.
