Slashed tires

I just got off the phone with my parents. They went out to their car this morning to find all the tires in their vehicles slashed. They called the police and there is a waiting list to have reports filed. At least fifty cars had their tires slashed last night. The police said that the first report came in at 4:20am. My parents live on Giel and I find this quite disturbing especially since my parents live in a nice area. Has anyone heard of this happening in such large numbers before? I never have. I just hope they find whoever did this.

Just an update. The police just called to tell my parents that they have juvenile suspects in custody. Thank you Lakewood PD for that fast work.

I have been listening to the scanner all day. The police were very consumed with this incident for most of the morning and early afternoon.

I did hear that some of the flat tires were filled with air and it held which might indicate that the kid might have just bled air from the valve and didn't puncture the tires.

Either way, like Danielle said, good grunt work by the cops.

Theirs were definitely slashed. Big gashes in the sides. The damage to my parents cars is probably $2,000 or so, both cars are about six months old. The thing that upsets me the most is that my mom is terrified now. She just feels violated. I am just happy they caught the criminals.

Two teens admitted to Lakewood Police that they slashed tires the morning of January 22. Per Lt. Ciresi, the case will go to Juvenile Court.

Victims are submitting copies of receipts of replacement costs involved to the Lakewood Police Department, Attention: Detective Walling. The fax number is 216-521-7727. The receipts are being compiled and will be submitted to the court. The court may demand restitution.

I would like to commend the police for their work.

Any time a crime occurs we feel a sense that things are turning for the worst.

Yet once again, our police force has risen to the occasion to apprehend the criminals and provide some sense of deterrence and security.

Keep up the great work.

We sincerely appreciate dedication and expertise of our police department.

Let me join in the kudos to the Lakewood Police!
When something like this happens, it can shake the confidence people have in their choice of cities to live in. I can't say that there is any crime that is unimportant to pursue, but the rapid and effective response by the police reinforces confidence in the city as a whole.
Juveniles.
Parents responsible in civil action that is likely to follow.
Simple math.
Figuring an average of $300.oo per vehicle as a very rough estimate, multiplied by 50, we are looking at about $15,000.oo that someones parents will be expected to cough-up. That is above and beyond any legal expenses and criminal action.
That will hurt.
It will not hurt as much as the damage done to the secure feeling that the victims have lost, or the that the community at large may have lost.
