About 11 years ago as I was helping a roommate move in and I had parked on the front lawn in an effort to reduce the distance traveled from said vehicle up two flights of stairs and to the back bedroom. Not at all that much stuff but it was hot.
I was very careful so as to not damage the lawn.
A Lakewood Police Officer told me I had to move the vehicle saying something to the affect that it's against the law and "this isn't Cleveland".
The football game between St. Ed's and Ignatius? had it's usual parking problems.Residents were even charging $10 to park. Now I'm all for entrepreneurship but they were parking cars on the lawns also.
I called the police and was told they were too busy. They had the time to ticket and tow vehicles but evidently there was not enough money in it for law enforcement to enforce the law. A potential tenant dropped me off and joked how it looked like Kentucky on my really nice street.
It hit a nerve. My knee jerk reaction ended up touching another nerve. I vented and will be quiet now.
I can spell. I'm just not the greatest typist
football seems above the law in Lakewood

Where's the problem?
It only happens for for a few hours once every two years. If residents can make a couple extra bucks, more power to them. Sort of like the kids that sell lemonade in their yards before and during the 4th of July parade.
I, for one, love it! It's great to see Lakewood be in the center of the media spotlight, at least for one evening.
In addition to the thousands of visitors we get for the game (pumping money into our local economy via parking, bars, and restaurants), the game was broadcast on Ch. 49, and the highlights were all over the local TV news.
My regret is that St. Ignatius doesn't play its games here anymore. The city and school board should work to bring them back to town...it would not be a difficult sell. Byers Field in Parma is very inconvenient for most Ignatius alums. And contrary to popular opinion, Ignatius did not move there due to stadium size.
High school football is one of Ohio's few remaining marketable commodities. Lakewood has a stadium that is second to none in the area. We as a city should do all that we can to bring more regular season and playoff games to town.

football seems to be above the law
DK - My gripe is that the cars were parked on the lawns and I was told that it is not permitted. When I backed onto the lawn to unload numerous boxes I was there for maybe 20 minutes. Not 3 hours or so. It certainly didn't have the Kentucky appearance as my friend had stated.
JO - you really have to let this one go. 11 years is a long time to dwell on this. As pointed out in other threads, do we really want the police ticketing or taking care of a little more important business, and working in tiocketing when we can.
DK - The weight of most vehicles could cause uneven slabs and thus create a hazard.
JO - The city trucks ruined my walks, still waiting for something, anything from the city.
DK - Or is there? Can residents use the facility in an organized manner. There are numerous baseball teams represented by area businesses. Could a flag football league utilize the grounds or does the grounds crew fear any damages that might result?
I don't know. I'm just putting ideas out there to be kicked around.
JO - Excellent idea, and this board is all about looking for ideas.
